Variety- The Children’s Charity has generously donated £5,000 worth of toys specially chosen for children supported by us in local nurseries and preschools. Recognising the unique needs of children with disabilities, Variety quickly responded to our urgent request for a range of specialist toys to enhance the developmental support that we provide in these settings.
Cyn Leonard, JCCT’s Programme and Development Manager, expressed her gratitude, stating, “Today we have 18 Support Workers supporting 60 children with disabilities in their nurseries across the Island. Our Support Workers found that often the children’s particular needs would benefit from additional and specialist toys to those available in their mainstream nurseries and put in a plea for us to find a way to buy some of these.”
Sandra Auckland and her colleagues from Variety – The Children’s Charity responded promptly. They agreed to purchase all necessary toys and collaborated closely with us to make it happen.
Cyn Leonard continued, “We asked our Support Workers to share their ideas of the more specialist toys that children, with their specific needs, would benefit from when at nursery. When the toys arrived, they said it felt like Christmas had come early!”
Having this range of toys available means our Support Workers can rotate them, ensuring all children have access to new and engaging items that cater to their emerging needs. This initiative significantly enhances the support provided to children with disabilities, ensuring they have the best possible experience and developmental opportunities in their nursery environments.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Variety – The Children’s Charity for their incredible support and generosity. Their contribution has made a profound difference in the lives of children we support.
