The Ogier Engineer Programme is setting sail for 2026, giving nursery children across Jersey the opportunity to explore boats, discover the harbour and learn through hands-on activities.
Ogier has supported the Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) and its Help a Life Take Flight campaign since 2018, working with the charity to create engaging learning experiences for children in local nurseries, supported by Ogier volunteers. Delivered in partnership with Ports of Jersey, this year’s programme builds on the success of last year’s maritime theme, with Elizabeth Harbour providing the backdrop for an unforgettable experience.
Trained Ogier volunteers, known as Ogier Engineers, deliver engaging carpet time sessions and creative activities in nurseries before accompanying the children on an immersive visit to the harbour. Through interactive activities, imaginative play and opportunities to discover more about boats and the harbour, children will develop their curiosity, confidence and understanding of the world around them.
The programme also provides valuable access to places and activities they might not otherwise experience, helping to make learning meaningful, inclusive and memorable.
Alice Bennion, Director of Programmes and Services at the Jersey Child Care Trust said:
“The Ogier Engineer Programme is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when corporate and community organisations work together to create opportunities for children. By combining creative learning in nurseries with real-world experiences at the harbour, the programme helps children build confidence, develop new skills and explore their interests in an exciting and accessible way.
“We are delighted to be working with Ogier and the Ports of Jersey again in 2026. The enthusiasm and commitment of the volunteers make a real difference, and we’re looking forward to seeing young explorers discover the world of boats and maritime life.”
Nicola Carroll, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Ogier, said:
“Our Ogier Engineers are excited to set sail with JCCT and welcome a new group of children to this special learning experience. The programme brings benefits for everyone involved. It creates opportunities for children to learn and explore, while giving our colleagues a rewarding way to share their time and enthusiasm. We’re proud to continue our longstanding support for JCCT and help open up opportunities for local children.”
The Ogier Engineer programme runs throughout October and November, offering around 300 children the opportunity to take part in a truly unique and memorable experience.
