As part of the Workforce Development Strand of the Best Start Programme, our trainers are delivering the MAYBO licensed course with its early years focus to over 500 childcare practitioners working in regulated settings this year. So far we have trained 170 practitioners, many of whom have given up their weekends and free time to ensure there are no interruptions to the care they give to the children during the working day. The MAYBO course helps develop understanding of young children’s needs and behaviours by exploring functions of behaviour, positive behavioural support and safer de-escalation. Practitioners reported how they can more easily tune into children’s behaviours before they escalate and that practitioner confidence has grown as a result of completing the course.
