We are delighted to share that nominations are now open for this year’s Wilma Allan Award.
This special award was created in memory of former JCCT employee Wilma Allan, a colleague who truly believed in noticing the quiet, hardworking achievers who consistently go above and beyond. Wilma valued kindness, commitment and dedication, and this award continues her legacy by recognising those qualities in the next generation of early years professionals.
The Wilma Allan Award celebrates a student or recently qualified Early Years Practitioner whose practice has stood out as exceptional. This might be through thoughtful communication with others, an inspiring activity that has made a real difference to young children, or simply something extra that has been noticed and valued by those around them.
Nominations can be made by managers or by families the practitioner works with. To nominate, simply tell us the name of the student or practitioner and describe what they have done that demonstrates they have gone above and beyond.

Nominations are open from now until the end of the summer term.
The Nomination Process
Once a nomination has been received, we will contact the nominee to gather further information about their work. This may include photos, supporting statements, a short film clip or a written submission showing:
- what they did
- why they did it
- the difference it made
- how that difference was recognised
The judging panel will meet in September to select a winner. The award will be presented by our Patrons, His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd and Lady Kyd, at a reception at Government House.
The winner will receive:
- an engraved medal
- £500 towards a professional development opportunity
- £500 worth of toys and resources for the setting that nominated them
